Nick Turner – College of Arts and Sciences
As time passes and your story unfolds into
Pages and pages full of words and motions.
Entire Encyclopedias can be written
On your thoughts and emotions.
There is no way I could read it all in my life
So I will settle for just a slice.
Give me your bruised edges, and crumbling crusts.
Tell me a lie, and of secret lusts.
But don’t forget, every good pie is made with trust.
I know life isn’t always fair
And know it isn’t always kind,
But I’m here right now to hear what’s on your mind.
And in return I will give you peace of mind with a piece of mine.
Don’t give me a cliché.
Darling, we are way past “How are you today?”
While I wouldn’t call this second base,
I need your rhetorical flourish to nourish my face
Because I can’t survive off these single serving friendships.
Conversations in sips.
Prepackaged emotions filled with artificial dyes two and six.
Take my hand and share with me
Something of yours that’s hard to see.
It doesn’t have to be in poetry.
Your eyes painted with glee,
Your voice and its melody
Is all you need to show
To let me know the state of your psyche.
You see, it’s the connection I seek.
To have a conversation leak
To where their not just wait for their turn to speak.
To embrace each word as they say it, is what I strive for.
Please don’t quit, tell me more.
I don’t expect us to be best friends forever
But this moment we shared I will always treasure.
And I can always take a look
back in my book
To find this scene
On page 2013.
